Starting with Hallmark Card Studio 2007, the functionality of the Reminders have dramatically changed. Previously, when a Reminder was scheduled, the Reminder window would open automatically at the startup of the computer or a specified time.

Now, the program handles Reminders in a different fashion. When a Reminder is scheduled and you start your computer, you will get a small text balloon that will appear above an icon in your System Tray. The text balloon will state what Reminder it is for. If you click on either the text balloon or the icon below it, it will open the Reminders screen. If you click on the "X" in the text balloon, this will essentially set the program to "snooze". You will continue to receive that text balloon until either you click on the balloon or the icon. Once the Reminders screen is opened, you will no longer receive that text balloon for the rest of the day.

If for some reason the Event Reminder window is opening automatically for you without clicking on the text balloon or the icon, then you have another version of Event Planner running on your computer. We have seen this happen in the past.

You are not required to uninstall any prior versions of Hallmark Card Studio or Event Planner before installing this version. Depending on the version of Hallmark Card Studio, you may find that there were separate uninstall options for both Hallmark Card Studio and the Event Planner. For example, we know that Hallmark Card Studio 2005 and 2006 installed both Hallmark Card Studio and the Event Planner as separate programs. If you wished to fully uninstall those programs, you would need to uninstall both Hallmark Card Studio and the Event Planner.

Hallmark Card Studio 2007 and 2008 incorporate both Hallmark Card Studio and the Event Planner under just Hallmark Card Studio 2007 or 2008. Removing Hallmark Card Studio 2007 or 2008 from the Add/Remove Programs will uninstall both Hallmark Card Studio 2007 or 2008 and its Event Planner. None of the prior versions did that, as far as we are aware of.

If the Event Reminder window is automatically opening, then it sounds like you have a prior version of Hallmark Card Studio's Event Planner still on your computer. In this case, we would recommend that you uninstall all copies of Hallmark Card Studio and Event Planner from the Add/Remove Programs and then reinstall just Hallmark Card Studio 2008.

Once you uninstall all versions of Hallmark Card Studio and Event Planner and then reinstall Hallmark Card Studio 2008, you should no longer have these inconsistent results. You should only get the text balloon appearing at both startup and the specified time. Then, you can click on the text balloon or icon to open the Event Reminder screen.
